《Omjee the Wizard(Korean Folk Stories)》는 미국 Milton Bradley사(1925년) 초판본으로 미국인 선교자이며 언어학자인 헐버트가 한국에 체류하는 동안 채집한 것을 영어 동화로 옮긴 것이다. 우리나라 동화는 당시 전무할 정도로 많지 않았던 아동문학 중 영문판으로 매우 귀중한 희귀 자료라고 할 수 있다.
모두 17편을 수록하고 있는데 신데렐라나 이솝우화를 연상시키는 내용으로 여러 가지 컬러 도판과 함께 실었다. ‘Sotkary’라는 한 소년이 태평양을 건너가는 것으로 시작하여 우리나라 전통 방식인 ‘온돌방’이나 ‘지게(jiggy)’ 등 과거 생활 풍습도 잘 묘사되어 있다. 이것은 보고 체험한 우리 문화를 외국에 알리고 소개하려는 취지로도 엿보이는 대목이다.
한국을 사랑했고 교육에 남다른 심혈을 기울였던 헐버트 박사는 1950년에 건국훈장 독립장을 추서 받았다.
