페트라르카는 Sappho, William Shakespeare와 같은 시인들과 함께 서구 전통의 최고의 사랑의 시인이자, 르네상스 예술가이자 탁월한 인본주의자이다.

These letters have strong autobiographical content and deal with a variety of issues, while at the same time containing constant reflection on the ethical values and customs of the time. Petrarch arranges his familiar letters chronologically, with the exception of letters to nine prominent ancient writers (Cicero, Seneca, Varro, Quintilian, Livy, Asinius Pollio, Horace, Vergil, Homer).
