쥘 가브리엘 베른(Jules Gabriel Verne, 1828-1905)은 SF 장르를 개척한 프랑스 작가다. 그는 지구 중심 여행(1864), 해저 2만 리(1870), 80일 동안 세계 일주(1873)와 같은 소설로 가장 잘 알려져 있다. Verne은 항공 여행과 실용적인 잠수함이 발명되기 전, 그리고 실용적인 우주 여행 수단이 고안되기 전에 우주, 항공 및 수중 여행에 대해 썼다.

Jules Gabriel Verne (1828-1905) is a French writer who pioneered the science fiction genre. He is best known for his novels such as Journey to the Center of the Earth (1864), 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1870), and Around the World in 80 Days (1873). Verne wrote about space, air, and underwater travel before air travel and practical submarines were invented, and before practical means of space travel were invented.
