Amores is Ovid's first complete collection of poems written in elegiac couplets. This collection of poems was first published in five books in 16 B.C., but Ovid later, with his own account, compiled it into three books that have survived to this day. The book follows the popular model of the erotic lament made famous by figures such as Tibullus and Propertius, but is often subversive and humorous in its tropes, exaggerating common motifs and devices to the point of absurdity.
