Summary
On the morning of July 18, the Styles Court family wakes up to learn that their elderly owner, Emily Inglethorp, has died. She became addicted to strychnine. Western Front soldier Arthur Hastings, who is staying at this country house on sick leave, ventures to the nearby town of Styles St Mary to enlist the help of his friend Hercule Poirot.
