제임스 매튜 배리 경(Sir James Matthew Barrie, 1st Baronet, OM, 1860년 5월 9일 - 1937년 6월 19일)은 스코틀랜드의 소설가이자 극작가다. 그는 Llewelyn Davies 소년을 기반으로 성장을 거부하는 소년 Peter Pan을 만든 것으로 가장 잘 알려졌다. 앵거스의 Kirriemuir에서 10남매 중 둘째 막내로 태어난 Barrie는 Glasgow Academy, Forfar Academy 및 Dumfries Academy, University of Edinburgh에서 교육을 받았다. 그는 노팅엄과 런던에서 저널리스트가 되었고 소설과 연극을 쓰기 시작했다. 그는 또한 1910년 미국 인구 조사 이전에 Wendy라는 이름의 소녀에 대한 기록이 5개밖에 없었기 때문에 "Wendy"라는 이름을 발명하거나 대중화한 것으로 알려져 있다.

Sir James Matthew Barrie, 1st Baronet, OM (9 May 1860 - 19 June 1937) was a Scottish novelist and playwright. He is best known for creating Peter Pan, a boy who refuses to grow up, based on the Llewelyn Davies boy. Born in Kirriemuir, Angus, the second youngest of 10 children, Barrie was educated at Glasgow Academy, Forfar Academy and Dumfries Academy, University of Edinburgh. He became a journalist in Nottingham and London and began writing novels and plays. He is also credited with inventing or popularizing the name "Wendy" as there were only five records of a girl named Wendy prior to the 1910 U.S. Census.
