통곡의 소행성(The Wailing Asteroid) 은 머레이 레인스터 (윌리엄 피츠제럴드 젠킨스) 가 쓴 SF 소설로1960년 에이본 북스(Avon Books)에서 처음 출판되었다. 우주의 위험으로부터 지구를 구하고 인류에게 미지의 문명을 소개하는 고독한 발명가의 인생 이야기다. 이 소설은 1967년 영화 The Terrornauts 로 각색되었다.

As satellite tracking stations around the world begin to pick up radio signals from space, Joe Burke, owner of a small engineering company, attempts to propose marriage to Sandy Lund, whom he has known since high school.
