Lord Theign, an English aristocrat, plans to sell a valuable painting from his collection to the wealthy American, Breckenridge Bender, in order to pay off his daughter Kitty’s gambling debts. However, young art critic Hugh Crimble strongly opposes the sale, believing that national treasures should not be taken abroad. He joins forces with Theign’s other daughter, Grace, to argue for keeping the painting in England. Meanwhile, Crimble suspects that another artwork in Theign’s collection might be an even rarer masterpiece, prompting further investigation.
