The tension between Myshkin, Rogozhin, Nastasya, and Aglaya reaches a breaking point. Aglaya, despite her feelings, chooses a socially acceptable marriage, leaving Myshkin devastated. Nastasya, still emotionally tortured, agrees to marry Myshkin but abruptly flees with Rogozhin on their wedding day. Rogozhin, driven by possessiveness, ultimately kills Nastasya in a fit of madness. Myshkin, upon discovering the murder, falls into a catatonic state, his compassion unable to prevent the tragedy. The novel ends with Myshkin returning to Switzerland in a state of mental collapse. Society moves on, indifferent to the suffering of its most innocent soul.
