To address the Greek army's dire situation, Agamemnon offers reconciliation to Achilles, who refuses. At night, Diomedes and Odysseus conduct a reconnaissance mission, gathering intelligence on the Trojans. The next day, the Trojans breach the Greek defenses, worsening the Greeks' position. Achilles remains absent from battle, but his friend Patroclus dons his armor and enters the fray. Initially successful, Patroclus is ultimately killed by Hector. This tragedy intensifies Achilles's rage, leading him to vow revenge. His return to battle promises to shift the war's momentum once more.
