In 1863 Hamburg, mineralogist Professor Lidenbrock discovers a coded message in an ancient Icelandic manuscript. With his nephew Axel, he deciphers it to reveal a path to the Earth's center via Iceland's Snæfellsj?kull volcano. They journey to Iceland, hire local hunter Hans as their guide, and commence their descent into the Earth's depths through the volcano's crater.
