With the arrival of spring, the explorers set their sights on the Northwest Passage and the elusive North Pole. Former rivalries subside as Altamont joins forces with the crew in pursuit of shared goals. Trekking through snow-covered terrain, they encounter bear tracks and glimpses of open sea, drawing closer to their objective. They ultimately plant the British flag and scale Mount Hatteras, standing at the top of the Arctic world. Turning south, they begin the long journey home, now transformed by discovery and resolve.
