After entering London for his studies, George experiences temptation, isolation, and moral drift. His uncle launches the Tono-Bungay venture, and George is swept up in its meteoric rise. Amid exaggerated claims and commercial spectacle, he learns the mechanics of capitalism. Yet, he begins to feel increasingly hollow and detached within.
