Dorothy is caught in a storm and washes ashore in the Land of Ev with Billina the talking hen. As she explores, she discovers mysterious messages in the sand and meets Tik-Tok, a mechanical man. She also encounters the vain Princess Langwidere and her collection of interchangeable heads. Ozma of Oz arrives with her retinue to rescue the royal family of Ev. Their journey leads them to the Nome King’s domain, guarded by a fearsome hammer-wielding giant.
