The protagonist born in the northern region undergoes childhood and school years and begins to explore his name and identity. As he grows he mingles with peers and meets a significant figure, inspiring in him the ambition to become a “great man.” Through minor events and failures in school and society he is tempered and tries to devise his own way of understanding the world. Conflict arises between the image his family and community expect and the person he truly wishes to become, and he begins to seek where he should head. In the end he prepares for a broader world and moves toward his first transformation.
