“Mr. Justice Harbottle” portrays a corrupt judge who becomes the target of supernatural retribution. Haunted by visions of a grotesque court where he is the accused, Harbottle is forced to confront the cruelty and abuses he committed during his life. Reality dissolves into nightmarish hallucination as terror overwhelms him. Though those around him notice his increasingly unstable behavior, they cannot comprehend the depth of his dread. The tale illustrates how power and arrogance can lead a man into a self-inflicted tribunal from which there is no escape.
