학마을 아이들은 ‘김숭이’를 원숭이라고 불렀어요.
숭이는 진짜 원숭이처럼 높은 나무 위에도 잘 올라갔어요.
“숭아! 새끼 새 좀 잡아 주라!”
아이들은 하루에도 몇 번씩 숭이를 따라다니면서 졸랐어요.
숭이가 말을 듣지 않으면 아이들은 심술을 부렸어요.
“숭이는 원숭이! 말도 잘 못 하는 바보 원숭이!”
아이들이 숭이를 놀렸어요.
숭이는 마지못해 아이들을 따라 밤골 상수리나무 위로 올라갔어요.
과연 숭이는 새끼 까치들을 잡았을까요?
