In the first half, young Princess Irene lives in isolation within a mountain castle, unaware of the hidden dangers beneath her sheltered life. She encounters her mysterious great-great-grandmother in the tower, who guides her through invisible threads and a magical ring that teach trust and courage. Meanwhile, Curdie, a miner’s son, becomes aware of the goblins dwelling underground and begins to sense their growing threat. Part One focuses on the separate awakenings of Irene and Curdie as their paths slowly converge toward a shared destiny.
