Spinrobin becomes increasingly involved in Skale’s experiments and begins to directly experience the idea that human voices and specific combinations of names can influence reality, and as the possibility emerges that a powerful force can be generated when their four voices achieve perfect harmony their relationship shifts from simple cooperation into a shared sense of destiny, while his emotional connection with Miriam deepens and creates a conflict between human love and a transcendent purpose, and as the experiment progresses the sense of danger intensifies and it becomes clear that they are approaching forces beyond ordinary human control, so that Spinrobin is ultimately left contemplating the profound connection between human existence language and the universe as well as the meaning of his own path.
