Set in the Tudor period the story begins with Sir John Foterell becoming entangled in a bitter land dispute with the Abbot of Blossholme as tension quickly escalates and threatens his family. The Abbot’s greed and abuse of power create a dangerous atmosphere while Sir John struggles to defend his rights and protect his daughter Cicely. At the same time a quiet romance begins to grow between Cicely and Sir Christopher adding both hope and vulnerability to the narrative.
