As the Dolphin continues her voyage, suspicion increasingly falls on Wilder, while the Red Rover uses daring deception and superb seamanship in confronting a Royal Navy vessel until Wilder's true allegiance, together with that of Fid and Scipio, can no longer remain concealed. Although his own laws demand severe punishment for betrayal, the Rover reveals growing reluctance to destroy the men he has come to respect, and after further confrontation he finally dissolves his pirate company, gives his treasure and freedom to his crew, and releases his captives.
