The Land That Time Forgot begins during the First World War when American Bowen J. Tyler, Lys La Rue, and other survivors seize the German submarine U-33 that has destroyed their vessel, only to be driven far off course by sabotage and eventually reach the mysterious cliff-bound island of Caprona near the Antarctic. Inside lies Caspak, a lost world populated by dinosaurs, prehistoric beasts, and human groups representing different stages of development, and as Tyler’s party establishes a fortified settlement and explores farther north, they begin to glimpse the extraordinary evolutionary system that makes this isolated land unlike anywhere else on Earth. Distrust between the German and Allied survivors, attacks by prehistoric creatures, betrayal, and Lys’s disappearance turn survival into a desperate search through the unknown interior, blending wartime adventure, lost-world fantasy, romance, and the mystery of Caspak’s strange pattern of human and animal evolution.
