Jungle Tales of Tarzan follows the young Tarzan before his encounter with civilization, presenting twelve interconnected adventures in which he lives among the apes while gradually becoming aware that he is different from them. Through his first love for Teeka, jealousy and rivalry within the tribe, clashes with neighboring people, acts of vengeance, and dangerous encounters with lions and other creatures, Tarzan also begins questioning death, God, the natural world, and his own identity. Blending love, friendship, cruelty, compassion, humor, revenge, survival, and relentless curiosity, the stories portray the formative years in which Tarzan begins to shape a worldview that is neither wholly human nor wholly animal but uniquely his own.
