Jane discovers that the baby with her is not her own son and is thrown into despair, but with unexpected assistance and the help of the old woman Tambudza she escapes Rokoff, while Tarzan continues following the trail of Jane and the child along the Ugambi with Mugambi and his fierce animal allies. After surviving a succession of dangers, Tarzan and Jane are reunited and regain control of the Kincaid, yet the surviving Paulvitch refuses to abandon his vengeance and secretly plants an explosive device aboard the vessel, destroying it and casting Tarzan’s party once more into a struggle for survival.
