Serialized from 1929 to 1930, Edgar Rice Burroughs’s Tarzan at the Earth’s Core begins when Abner Perry sends a radio message from Pellucidar asking for help in rescuing David Innes from the Korsars, prompting Jason Gridley to seek Tarzan’s aid and organize an expedition aboard the enormous airship O-220 through the polar entrance to the inner world. Once in Pellucidar, Tarzan, Gridley, and other members of the expedition become separated and must survive encounters with prehistoric predators, strange peoples, and hostile creatures, while Gridley meets Jana, the Red Flower of Zoram, and becomes drawn into a new adventure and romance. After imprisonment, battles, and repeated escapes, the scattered expedition finally reunites and succeeds in rescuing David Innes, although one missing member remains behind and leaves the strange world open to further adventure.
