Now transformed into Thandar, Waldo returns with Nadara to her people and earns recognition as a powerful warrior and leader, but when she is abducted again he launches another search that carries him across jungle and sea against wild tribes, head-hunters, and pirates. Building a boat and relying on both the knowledge of his civilized upbringing and the survival skills he has learned on the island, he continues the pursuit until he is finally able to rescue Nadara and overcome the enemies that have repeatedly separated them. After a long series of battles and escapes, Waldo and Nadara at last begin their journey home, completing his transformation from a timid intellectual into a courageous man shaped by love, hardship, and adventure.
